GOKHALE (Pratibha A). Preservation of Print Material in Libraries. 22,1-2;1997;94-101

Discusses that libraries have a major responsibility of preserving the recorded material. Books and other media in a library preserve facts, thoughts, intellectual contributions and records of human civilization. Describes factors responsible for the physical deterioration of the print and non-print form of the library material. Suggests the need for planned strategy to develop preservation programmes as a part of an institution's management activities. Pleads for efforts directed towards raising the general awareness about need for preserving documents, disaster preparedness plans, training the people for the same and thereby improve the access to library's collection.
